Erica Stanley is an engineering leader, startup investor and advisor, tech DEI advocate, speaker, and coach, based in Atlanta, GA. She is currently building and leading engineering teams for Google Play. In her 20+ year career, she’s worked in big tech, Fortune 500 companies, early-stage startups, and academia.
She holds a B.S and M.S in Computer Science from Clark Atlanta University, where she conducted research in virtual reality and 3D data modeling. She has also conducted post-graduate research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, she specialized in interactive 3D graphics, data visualization, and telepresence. She has contributed to numerous projects, collaborating with world-renowned researchers and research institutions, including Brown University, The California Institute of Technology, The Georgia Institute of Technology, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Kennedy Space Center, and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory at the University of Georgia. Always eager to explore emerging technologies, Erica has worked with various technologies at the heart of telepresence for over 20 years, including mixed reality, computer vision, IoT, and mobile development.
She passionately works towards gender and multicultural inclusion in tech, via education and exposure to opportunities. In 2013, she founded the Atlanta network of Women Who Code, where she leads new developer workshops and organizes monthly tech talks, hack nights, and networking events for over 5,000 women technologists. She also collaborates with companies and organizations within the Atlanta tech community to help improve DEI strategies. She previously also sat on the advisory board of 100 Girls of Code where she helped develop new strategies and curriculums to encourage girls to grow their technology skills and interests. In 2019, she co-founded REFACTR.TECH—a community and event series showcasing technologists from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds.
